Sacramento Kings Hire New Coach Eric Musselman

Author: Mark Barnes

The Sacramento Kings have found their new head coach in Eric Musselman. This former Memphis Grizzlies assistant is now replacing the former Rick Adelman. It is clear that the Kings have elected to hire a former Bear to run the show. With a short list of merely three candidates and a lengthy four week span, they finally made it clear who they want running the bench.

At the time of the hiring, there was only one vacancy for a coach in the entire NBA. The owners of the Kings Joe and Gavin Maloof, wasted no time in signing Musselman, once they found their man. They have hired what is to be one of the best young minds in the league that carries a lot of respect with him.

The owners are already very comfortable with their decision, and feel that they are going to be the best-prepared team in the league, come the new season's arrival. Eric Musselman already carries a lot of clout as he led the Golden State Warriors to two surprisingly successful seasons from 2002-04. Furthermore he was a minor league coach and is considered a veteran NBA assistant.

There are contract details that still need to be worked out, yet there is no regrets on the hiring that replaces the most winningest coach in the Kings history in Adelman. What basically sold the Maloofs, was the 100 page scouting report that Musselman wrote on the Kings, that he presented on his second interview. The Kings believe at this time they will have an edge and an opportunity to make a serious impact in the league.
